Real Acts of Caring: Anmore Youth Help Haiti
Feb 14-20 is RAC WEEK. RAC stands for Real Acts of Caring and it is a School District Wide event that promotes individual acts of kindness and caring at home, in school, and throughout our local community. Thanks to resident and school councillor Harriette Chang and her group of elementary school students for attending a recent Anmore Council Meeting to ask that this week be declared RAC WEEK.
We will be adding new RAC stories all week, so please let us know of any kind and caring acts by neighbours, friends and family! (email: tracy@greenhands.ca)
REAL ACTS OF CARING: ANMORE YOUTH RAISE MONEY FOR HAITI
Local Anmore Elementary student, Jaden Kreutziger-Bennett, decided to really put her heart into Valentine’s Day this year. With the help of some friends, she organized a Valentines chocolate sale and raised $165.81 through chocolate orders. Jaden spent the weekend hand-making these chocolates that were delivered to Anmore students today in celebration of Valentine’s Day. All proceeds from the handmade chocolate hearts will go to help with disaster relief in Haiti. But Jaden’s kindness doesn’t end here…
Ella Green, a Grade 1 student, had also been collecting donations from friends, classmates and neighbours over the past month and had been determined to raise “$550 or more” by Valentine’s Day to be sent to the Free the Children Organization for Disaster Relief in Haiti. After a very successful donut sale that raised over $100 during the Olympic Torch Pancake Breakfast, Ella had raised a total of $505… a tremendous effort… but still short of her goal of “$550 or more”.
Well, in comes Jaden, with an amazing offer to donate her funds from her chocolate sale to Ella’s donation page to help Ella reach her goal! So together, Jaden and Ella have raised over $671 for Haiti!! http://www.canadahelps.org/GivingPages/GivingPage.aspx?gpID=6453
I think this shows amazing collaboration between a Grade 5 student and a Grade 1 student and the kind of caring and compassion that is an inspiration to us all! Jaden has been a great mentor to Ella and really shown her how much can be achieved by working together. Ella has also worked with her mom to develop a web site (www.HelpBuildSchools.ca) to help build schools for children around the world.
This is our story to kick off RAC week. Check back often, we have many stories to share this week!
