Treefest 2010 – Sept.12, 2010       DRAFT v.2   August 9, 2010

Riverview Horticultural Centre Society (RHCS) in partnership with the City of Coquitlam , Burke Mountain Naturalists and ArtsConnect invites you to celebrate the 17^th annual Treefest on Sunday, September 12^th.   Treefest will be held from 11:00am – 4:00 pm at the Henry Esson Young (H.E.Y.) Building at the Riverview Hospital Grounds located at 2601 Lougheed Highway in Coquitlam. 

Treefest is an opportunity to celebrate trees and environmental stewardship with an emphasis on the fine collection of trees on the Riverview lands.  This free family festival features guided tree tours, live entertainment, blackberry tea served in Finnie’s Garden, a walk to heritage buildings, food concession and community group displays.  Local artists will also be on hand, exhibiting their art which will be offered for sale.

The theme of this year’s event is “Heritage”, featuring a Living Heritage panel, hosted by heritage architect, Donald Luxton, with local community members sharing their stories and reflections on Riverview. Panelists include:

              – Val Adolph – retired Riverview employee, founding member of RHCS and co-author of “The Riverview Lands”

              – Katie Hughes – former Horticultural Therapy director at Riverview

              – Ron Talbot – lived at Essondale as a child because his parents worked there

              – Fred Bennett – former psychiatric nurse at RV, director of RHCS

In keeping with the theme, the Riverview Hospital Museum will also be open.

This event will appeal to all ages with family entertainment provided by local musicians  and activities for children including crafts and a children’s tree tour.  Gardeners and homeowners will enjoy free GardenWorks workshops and speaking to Master Gardeners about their gardening questions and challenges.
