Friendly Forest Preschool Wins Champions for Children Group/Organization Award

Friendly Forest Preschool Teachers were honoured as the winners of the Champions for Children Group/Organization Award at last night’s 3rd Annual TriCities Champions for Children Awards Dinner.

Friendly Forest has operated in Anmore as a Parent Cooperative Preschool for 25 years. All of the teachers have worked at the preschool and with the children and parents for many, many years and contributed greatly to this community based preschool.

The teachers who received the award are:

Glenda Treffry-Goatley who recently celebrated her 25th year with the school and received the Prime Minister’s Award of Excellence in ECE in 2009.

Lindsay Dureau who has worked at the school for over 10 years

Ruth Graham who has been with the school for 5 years

Program Assistant Joanne Perkins who is a former parent and now works at Friendly Forest.

Program Assistant Carol Lindsay who has had a long work history in supporting Friendly Forest children through the Simon Fraser Society.

When announcing the award, the nomination package and selections committee had this to say about the group:

“They have created a safe and welcoming environment that allows children of all abilities to thrive. They provide consistent and caring support that encourages each child to express their thoughts, feelings and accomplishments in an environment that values them as individuals.”

“The Friendly Forest teaching team focus the curriculum around the interests of the children, allowing the preschoolers to explore new things, learn through play and love their first “school” experience. They have also worked hard to share their knowledge base with parents at the school in addition to inviting practicuum students to work at the preschool alongside of them.”

The committee also went on to describe the work the teachers are doing this year with the children, including a fundraising project that raised $1400 for a school in Uganda.

Congratulations! Well deserved and thank you for all the work you do in our community.
