To all Anmore & Belcarra Grade 12 Students

Amount of Award / Bursary :                   $ 500

Criterion:

• Must be a Resident of Anmore / Belcarra
• Available to students Graduating in 2012 and entering a Post Secondary Education program in the field of :  Fire / Police / Public Safety / Medical / Health-Care / Dental / Social Services
• Students will need to provide basic proof of enrollment in a post secondary program.
• 750 – 1000 word essay on the topic : “Why volunteering is important in my community”.
• Reference(s) detailing volunteer work hours completed.
• 2 Letters of Reference from non-family members

Important items to remember :
Reference letters must accompany application.

All applications to be completed and submitted no later than June 1, 2012.

• Heritage Mountain Students can return completed applications to their Career Centre before deadline.
• Grade 12 students can also return completed applications to their respective Village Hall before June 1, 2012 deadline.

I met a lady on my morning dog walk who stopped to warn me about a home invasion on Aspenwood Drive yesterday.  Police are asking everyone to be very aware of strangers, unusual cars in the neighbourhood, and to call them about anything suspicious.

This happened up at a home up near the mailboxes that go down onto the trail behind Aspenwood Drive.  The woman is ok, somehow  managed to get herself out.  Police apparently say there is a real rash of attempted robberies going on right now in Heritage Mtn.  Be sure to remind your neighbors, with young kids especially, not to answer the door to strangers.”

A German Shepherd dog was lost in the Sunnyside/East Rd/Hemlock area on Monday night sometime between 6:30-8pm. If you have seen this dog after that time or have any information about please contact 604-461-0446.

The definition of “construction” has been expanded to include “construction or installation of sub-division infrastructure, including heavy equipment”.

“construction” means the erection, alteration, repair, painting, maintenance, relocation, demolition or removal of a building or other structure and includes all land clearing, landscaping, earth moving, grading, excavating, erection and laying of lines, cables, pipes and conduit (whether above or below ground level), street building, paving, concreting and similar activities; and the installation, alteration or removal of construction equipment, components and materials in any form or for any purpose and any work being done in connection herewith. Included is the construction or installation of sub-division infrastructure, including, using heavy equipment and trucks.

The next four sections are new, in that the committee is recommending the use of a decibel meter. I would like any comments regarding appropriate sound levels using such a meter.

Sound Level means the arithmetic mean of the medians of 5 or more sets of lower and upper measurements of a series of A-weighted sound pressure levels read or recorded at a point of reception on a sound level meter set for slow response.

Sound Level Meter means a sound measuring device designated to meet the C.S.A. Standard Z107.1-1973 as amended from time to time; or the A.N.S.I. Standard S14-1971 as amended from time to time.

Daytime noise must not exceed 80 on an approved decibel device and 50 during nighttime at the point of reception.

Construction noise must not exceed 70 on an approved sound meter.

This is allowing an hour for contractors to remove heavy equipment onto or off of a site in between 7 PM and 8 PM. – - Heavy equipment may be moved onto or off a site Monday to Friday 7AM to 8PM.

Regulation of testing of emergency generators has been raised as an issue. The following proposal has been made. –   An emergency generator must not be tested more than once a month during daytime for a maximum of 60 minutes, plus once a year for 180 minutes measured at the point of reception or at least 6.1 meters from the source, whichever is greater.

Likewise with heat pumps and air conditioners etc. –  The sound level produced at a point of reception by the operation of a heat pump, air conditioner, ventilation system or similar device that is:                                          (i) in excess of 50 decibels between 7 AM and 9 PM on any day: or

(ii) in excess of 45 decibels between 11 PM and 7 AM on the following day.

This is to ensure peace and quiet during nighttime hours. —  Power equipment may not be used between the hours of 9 PM and 8 AM Monday to Friday, and Saturday and Sunday before 9 AM and after 6 PM.

This is a recommendation to increase ticket costs when the first ticket etc. is ignored. –  A person convicted or who admits guilt of an offence under this bylaw is liable to pay either of the following penalties:

(a)        a fine of up to $1,000.00 if issued a ticket under Municipal Ticket Information Utilization Bylaw; or

(b)        a fine of up to a maximum $10,000.00 if prosecuted under the Offence Act.

(c)         a first offence will incur a fine of $250.00; a second offence $500.00. In the event a by-law is contravened in regards to construction noise a stop work order will be issued.

(d)        In addition but subject to subsection (a), the bylaw may establish different fine amounts that apply depending on whether the amount is paid on or before the 30th day from the date on which the ticket is served.

Public Health Summer School: Tues-Fri - July 24 to 27, 2012

Making the Case for Public Health: Health Communication & Evaluation

The Public Health Association of BC, in partnership with BC universities, health authorities and community organizations is pleased to announce 3^rd annual Public Health Summer School. In support of this event, please forward this notice on to colleagues/students who you think would be interested in attending the 2012 Public Health Summer School.

This four-day long professional development opportunity is divided into two, two-day sessions. Please plan to register for one session or both!

Who?

Individuals from a variety of backgrounds and sectors who work directly or indirectly with public health. All health frontline providers, managers, leaders, consultants, researchers, educators, inter-sectoral and community partners and post-secondary students welcome.

When?

July 24 & 25  (Tues/Wed) = Two-day Health Communication session

July 26 & 27 (Thurs/Fri) = Two-day Evaluation session

Where?

Four major sites – Vancouver (UBC), Victoria (UVIC), Prince George (UNBC), Kelowna (UBC-O)

** Please contact the PHABC if you are interested in facilitating the addition of a smaller site to the Public Health Summer School.

To inform and improve public health practice.

To share, collaborate and learn from each other.

Make sure to register for the annual community Easter Egg Hunt Saturday, April 7th from 1:30-3:30pm at Spirit Park, behind the Anmore Village Hall. To register just complete the attached form and return it to Anmore Village Hall by Wednesday, April 4th. Cost to register is just $2/child.

The Anmore Garden Club is also holding their spring plant sale at Spirit Park the same day.  The sale will coincide with the Easter Egg Hunt.  All plants have been provided by garden club members!

Residents are asked to place the branches on the roadside at their property.  The “pile” of branches can have a total volume of 4 cubic meters (4 feet wide, 4 feet high and a maximum of 9 feet long).

Branches must be placed at roadside by Sunday, Apr 15^th.

Please ensure that you have registered your name, address and phone number with the Village Hall no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Apr 13^th

Note:   If you would like wood chips (mulch) delivered after the chipping is done, please inform staff when you phone to register.
