I hope the pay-per-page method is adopted for the Anmore Times. The current open-ended donation to the paper is lacking transparency. It’s not a good then when gov’t monies going to a private business – it accepts advertising dollars – but is not called on to account for its spending of Village money.

That was a BIG bin! It didn’t seem to have an access hole or stairs so in an attempt to get the foam into it I ended up playing frisbee with styrofoam pieces in the pouring rain. I got some funny looks from people driving by.
Anyhow, it was a good idea and I hope that it was a successful in diverting some of our recyclables from the landfill. How about an article for the Anmore Times about this pilot project, the company and what happens to the foam from here?

Thanks for taking the time to help educate residents about this program, Glenna.
Tim presented to the house of commons committee for Veterans Affairs today, 1 Dec. By the time he had finished lunch with his auntie, a delegation of 5 MP’s and their staff contacted his professor. They will visit the program next week at UBC.
Hopefully, funding will come forward so that soldiers outside of BC will be able to take part in duplicate programs.
Kudos to the BC Legion for stepping up to the plate on behalf of BC soldiers.

Dear Mr. Schofield,

What you are suggesting above is not possible. There is not a newspaper in existence that prints “ALL the letters, comments, opinions” that it receives. This is because many forms of commentary are generally held to be inadmissible. For example, anonymous commentary is not admissible, commentary that arrives under various pseudonyms from a single url is not admissible, commentary containing ad hominem attacks is not admissible, commentary containing profanity is not admissible, unintelligible commentary is not admissible & etc. To print such commentary would be foolhardy at best, libellous at worst. All editors, not just those at the Anmore Times, must engage discretionary tactics to protect themselves from falling victim to charges of slander & etc. Furthermore, I sincerely hope that you and others of like mind can refrain from stomping your feet about “bias” long enough to acknowledge that bias is the inheritance of humankind. We are all biased in our opinions, an unbiased opinion is an oxymoron. The best that we can hope for is balance in reporting, not the annihilation of bias. Editorial balance is a precarious dance and I commend the editors of the Anmore Times for attempting to achieve such balance in print and especially for exposing themselves to the criticism of the biased masses.

Tracy Green stepped down as editor of The Anmore Times Online when she decided to run for Council, since she realised it would be a conflict of interest. Other volunteers now work on the newsletter.

Dear Holly,

I could not agree more. I am insulted each time that I am asked to embrace a version of events that is yet one of many perceptions. Obviously, Mr Barron and Mr. Piamonte do not esteem the intelligence of their wider audience. You are right to point out the dangers of cloistered thinking, which endeavours to close open minds. “Ghost story telling” is a form of mythologizing that re-inscribes the rhetoric of fear and does damage to the political process. It is very serious and it is subversive.

hmmm, more to the mystery. If only the people of Belcarra could be more concerned with their politicians, not so apathetic…then we too may have some issues to grapple with out in the open. Sad to see so much of it in Anmore and flinging, but at least t=it brings people to truly think about what is going on.
